Scala has gained significant traction, in start-ups as well as established enterprises. In this talk Martin Odersky gave an introduction to the language and explained why it is attractive to developers, who uses it and why it crucial to exploiting the full power of the now pervasive multi -core computers.
Scala was not only voted HOT but even voted HOTTER!
The language integrates features of object-oriented and functional languages while staying completely interoperable with Java. It allows a terseness of style comparable to scripting languages but has at the same time a strong and static type system. In this way, it can express common programming patterns in a concise, elegant, and type-safe way. Scala allows simpler programming models for concurrent and parallel application development.
Martin's bio
Martin is the creator of Scala, professor at EPFL and the CEO of Scala Solutions. He has personally written more lines of Java and Scala code than almost any other individual in the world, including javac, the compiler used by the majority of today’s Java programmers, and scalac, the compiler used by the fast-growing Scala community. He is the author of the award-winning, best-selling book on Scala.
