Elixir is ready for tomorrow. This modern functional programming language features pattern matching, extensibility using metaprogramming and protocols, and is surrounded with great tooling. Elixir is built on top of the Erlang virtual machine, inheriting it’s low-latency, distributed processing and fault-tolerance features. Elixir is used in server applications, web development, and embedded systems.

José Valim, creator of the Elixir programming language will tell you all about Elixir and its ecosystem during the Sioux Hot-or-Not on June 26th.  After his presentation, Sioux will provide a demo of the application of Elixir. The demo shows you the power of the Elixir language, high-lighting the scalability, distributed, concurrency and fault-tolerance aspects. At the end of the evening you can decide for yourself if Elixir has the potential to become the new standard in programming.

José Valim is the creator of the Elixir programming language and member of the Rails Core Team. He graduated in Engineering in São Paulo University, Brazil and has a Master of Science by Politecnico di Torino, Italy. He is also the lead-developer of Plataformatec, a consultancy firm based in Brazil, and an active member of the Open Source community and is frequently travelling and speaking at conferences.
